PRESENTER – Walter G. M. Schneider III, Ph.D., P.E., CBO, CFO, MCP, MiFireE, FM, FASCE, CPT

Agency Director for the Centre Region Code Administration, a 28-person full-service code agency administering a completely new construction code administration program for 7 municipalities, administering a comprehensive rental housing and fire code program for 6 municipalities. He teaches a soils and foundations course at Penn State which includes segmental retaining wall as a part of the course for many years.

Dr. Schneider is also very involved with the adaptation and adoption of the building code for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania being appointed by the Governor to the Pennsylvania Review and Action Committee for the Uniform Construction Code of Pennsylvania. He was elected unanimously to Chair this Committee under the PA Dept. of Labor and Industry. He wrote the PA version of the Building Codes which was adopted and published by the International Code Council. He is the immediate President of the Pennsylvania Building Code Officials Conference (the presence of the ICC within PA).

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

The presentation will review the minimum requirements for the successful construction of SRWs (Segmental Retaining Walls). The course will cover plan review, design and specification requirements, example plans, minimum construction requirements and construction inspection.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the different segmental retaining wall types and the design requirements for each and when an engineer is needed for the design.
  2. Be able to complete a plan review considering requirements for soils, geogrid, SRW units including testing requirements.
  3. Identify minimum SRW specifications and be familiar with SRW construction inspection including site and equipment inspection.

CONTINUING EDUCATION: 3 Contact Hours.   PCMA has registered this program with the ICC and will issue credits accordingly. PCMA will also provide a certificate of completion for each attendee directly to your email address for PA Dept of Labor & Industry Credits.
