MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Considerable construction and public contact experience and completion of a standard high school course preferably supplemented by college level course work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
 

REQUIREMENTS

Must pass a criminal background investigation, pre-employment physical, and drug test. 
 

NATURE OF WORK PERFORMED

This position is responsible for the inspection of dwelling units to secure compliance with the minimum housing standards and related codes. This position is supervised by the Chief Building Inspector.
 

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Inspects dwelling units to determine violations of the minimum housing standards ordinance with respect to structure, plumbing, electric wiring, sanitation, and other features; informs owners of the inspection findings and conditions which must be corrected; investigates complaints received from public; issues citations and appears in court for hearings.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Good knowledge of the building trade and applicable codes and standards; ability to apply knowledge of related codes including International Property Maintenance Code; excellent communication and customer service skills.
