In 2022, PENNBOC created a new award to recognize superior leadership contributions by a code official to the organization and to the profession. The award is named after long-time PENNBOC member & leader, John Eby (Region 5).
The “Excellence in Leadership Award” is presented in recognition of outstanding leadership, visionary guidance, and dedicated service to the Pennsylvania Building Officials Conference.
The recipient must have 20 or more years of membership with PENNBOC, have served on the state board of directors for five or more years, and have made significant contribution to the organization.
The 2023 “John Eby Excellence in Leadership Award” recipient is Paul Purtell (Region 1). Paul has given tirelessly of himself to increase the effectiveness of the association and has distinguished himself as an exceptional leader amongst the building codes community.
At PENNBOC’s 2023 Annual Membership Meeting on September 20, 2023, in Gettysburg, PA, Paul was presented an award plaque in appreciation of his leadership.
