City of York is accepting applications for an Assistant Building Code Official.

Position Summary
Assist the City’s Building Code Official protect the public health, safety, and welfare of City residents as it relates to structures and premises that are governed by the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This is done by conducting permit plan reviews and inspections for compliance with the UCC and preparing clear and concise plan review documents and inspection reports. This position will also conduct complaint-based inspections to UCC violations, issuing citations and taking other necessary written enforcement actions to gain compliance with the UCC.

Essential Functions
Review plans for compliance with the requirements of UCC, consulting with Building Code Official on matters of non-compliance and/or code equivalency. Work directly with developers and designers to gain compliance with the code. Attend pre-development meetings. Conduct inspections for permits to verify compliance with UCC requirements, compliant-based inspections related to UCC violations, and certificate of occupancy inspections. Consult with the Building Code Official on matters of non-compliance and/or code equivalency. Prepare written reports and documents related to both plan review and inspections. Issue citations and take other necessary written enforcement actions to gain compliance with the UCC. In the absence of the Building Code Official, shall serve as the Acting Building Code Official. Other duties as assigned.

The ability to mediate corrections to construction problems related to resident complaint and investigations.
