Code officials are faced with the continual need to learn about code changes and new and evolving products and specifications. They must also interact successfully with a customer base that turns over with every season.

Accessibility Issues 

Jennifer Perry – 
This always-in-demand topic will forecast the changes code officials will soon encounter. The session will focus on the hot spots and micro-code provisions expected to receive aggressive surveillance during compliance audits. Topics include sign locations and placement, clearance issues relating to floors, walls, doors and more, and post-inspection, owner-initiated, non-permit regulated changes.

 


 

Commercial Kitchen Venting & Fire Suppression Systems
Mike Laderoute
In regard to hoods and vents and the interrelated fi re suppression systems in commercial uses, participants will learn what to inspect, how to inspect it, and how to determine successful and proper installation. The role of the code offi cial regarding the suitability, installation and testing of used equipment and components will be explored. Discussion of the need for periodic maintenance and inspection and the code offi cials’ role will round out this session.

Roofing Systems

Jim Kingsborough
This session addresses the code requirements for materials, application processes and fi eld-verifi cation (inspection) for a variety of roof systems primarily found in commercial applications. The characteristics of EPDM, TPO and PVC single ply roof membranes and edge metal, including fascia and coping technology which are now in the IBC, will be covered in detail. Lab qualifi cation testing requirements will be presented. How to recognize contractor substitution of non-compliant materials will be covered.

 


Residential Plan Review for Five Disciplines

This sessopm explores topics associated with a diverse range of review actions affecting framing, electrical, plumbing, energy and mechanical disciplines. Discussion topics for each discipline include:
    •    Components of a complete application package
    •    Communicating plan faults and the plan rejection/permit denial process
    •    Statutory time-line for review and action
    •    The “supremacy” of the UCC
    •    Prerequisite credentials and areas of authority
